10 Year Mountain Permafrost Dataset Published

Jan Beutel

Dear colleagues,

Last week our paper „A decade of detailed observations (2008–2018) in steep bedrock permafrost at the Matterhorn Hörnligrat (Zermatt, CH)“ has been published in Earth System Science Data:

https://www.earth-syst-sci-data.net/11/1203/2019/

https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.897640

This paper and dataset documents the longest, densest and most diverse data record in cryospheric science, specially mountain permafrost based on our wireless sensor systems on the Matterhorn (CH). At the time of writing this email we have actually already passed the 11+ year mark, so apart from hoping that this data serves you well, watch for updates to the published dataset. For the brave among you, this data (and more) is available online at: http://data.permasense.ch

Alongside with this ETH/UZH published a nice news piece that is now circulating through various media outlets:

https://ethz.ch/en/news-and-events/eth-news/news/2019/08/monitoring-the-matterhorn-with-millions-of-data-points.html

best regards,

Jan Beutel + Samuel Weber
