AGU 2018 Call for Abstracts: (NH017) Hydrometeorological Extremes and their relation to Earth System Dynamics

Naresh Devineni

Dear Colleagues,

We welcome submissions for the following interdisciplinary session at the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C.:

NH017: Hydrometeorological Extremes and their relation to Earth System Dynamics

The goal of this session is to enable discussion on novel methodologies for identifying the causal mechanisms and improve the predictions of hydrometeorological extreme events. The potential for simultaneous occurrences of multiple extremes, their persistence and recurrence can be associated with ocean-atmospheric processes at various levels in the hierarchy of the climate system. We invite works that focus on investigating physical causality and inference of regional scale hydrometeorological extreme events. From Physical to Information Theory based investigations, statistical and dynamical frameworks for extreme events, machine learning and Bayesian learning frameworks, a broad span of techniques are welcome to robustly identify appropriate structures of dependence that can be used for predictive and simulation models informed by the climate in a broader earth system dynamics perspective.

Cross-listed divisions: Natural hazards, Hydrology, Climatology, Land/atmosphere interactions, Ocean/atmosphere interactions, Precipitation
