AGU-OS005 - Coastal Altimetry from the Shelf to Estuaries and Deltas: Retrieval, Applications and Assimilation in Models

Jerome Benveniste

Dear Colleagues,

Now that the traffic for OSTST abstracts has wound down, let us bring to your attention the following AGU 2019 Fall Meeting session in San Francisco, 09-13 December 2019:

OS005 - Coastal Altimetry from the Shelf to Estuaries and Deltas: Retrieval, Applications and Assimilation in Models

Session ID#: 76597

Session Description:
Satellite radar altimetry provides a unique and consistent data set of water level that extends more than 25 years back in time and has almost global coverage. Recent technological advances (SAR, SARin and Ka-band) and novel retrieval processing show improved water level observations over the coast and boundary inland water areas, filling an important gap. We invite contributions highlighting how satellite altimetry data are processed in those challenging domains (new technologies, novel algorithms) and used (in combination/synergy with in situ and/or models) to contribute to the research and monitoring of coastal ocean and ocean-land transition areas. We encourage studies in permafrost-affected coastal plains as well as novel investigations concerning “coastal hydrology”  (e.g., coastal river flooding). Case-studies are also welcome, for different geographical situations (e.g., megacities, islands, low-lands), highlighting the integration of in situ/altimetry/modelling in the coastal zone, using processing platforms providing data access, processing algorithms and data assimilation techniques.

(sent also to the Cryolist mailing list to cover the Arctic Ocean Coastal Zone as well!)
