ArcGIS shapefiles of Greenland glaciers

Abdulhakim Abdi
Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find Arc shapefile(s) of all (or most) of
the outlet glaciers in Greenland? The shapefile could be in any feature
type, although polygons would be the most beneficial.

Cheers,

Hakim Abdi

Re: ArcGIS shapefiles of Greenland glaciers

Abdulhakim Abdi
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my inquiry about
ArcGIS shapefiles of the Greenland outlet glaciers. In order to share
the information, below is the feedback I got:

----------
Try the Danish Geological Survey - link below.
http://www.geus.dk/geuspage-uk.htm
or Kurt Kjær, Geological Museum, Copenhagen, Denmark.
http://snm.ku.dk/ansatte/ansatte/beskrivelse/?id=77403
Some of them might have the data you're looking for.
----------
You might be interested in getting into contact with the group of Philip
Rastner, Tobial Bolch, and Frank Paul - they just completed a detailed
inventory of Greenlands glaciers and ice caps.
----------
I suggest that you try contacting Michele Citterio ( [hidden email] ) or
Willy Lehmann Weng at GEUS (Geological Survey of Denmark & Greenland).
They were involved in making available Coastline and Ice margin vectors
to the Times Atlas for their recent issue of an insert map to correct
the Greenland map in the 13th edition.
(http://www.timesatlas.com/News/Pages/Home.aspx?BlogID=63). You can see
a figure incorporating their ice outlines in the Supplement part of a
paper in The Cryosphere Discussions, at
http://www.the-cryosphere-discuss.net/5/3207/2011/tcd-5-3207-2011-supplement.pdf
. Not sure what the public status of these is, but hopefully they can
advise how to get their vectors, or alternatives.
----------

Last but not least, particular gratitude goes to Dr. Hamish Pritchard of
BAS, who was kind enough to send me a point shapefile of the glaciers as
well as a georeferenced map that has all the glacier names.

Cheers,

Hakim
