[CliC] Self-nominations to participate in the WCRP Regional Consultations

Gwenaelle Hamon
Dear Cryolist,

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) is performing several consultations as part of its new WCRP implementation plan, and the input from its core projects is essential; as CliC, the Climate & Cryosphere Project we have been requested to provide nominees to be part of the Regional Consultations.

Briefly, the goal is to engage, through these regional consultations, with the WCRP community, partners, stakeholders as well as the wider climate science communities in ways that was not possible during the previous small meetings. These discussions will be used to explain the WCRP Strategy, implementation plan and process, proposed draft structure, and new proposed science activities. This engagement will be done via a series of Virtual Townhall (VTH) meetings around the world – this is what is referred to as Regional Consultations.

To make these happen, we seek volunteers or nominees to act as Regional Focal Points for each of the Regions listed in the table below (we are hoping for 2 – 3 per Region). The task for these RFPs is to form a “local organising committee” for each Region, drawing on WCRP and other networks, and work with this committee to roll out the Regional Consultation.

The aim is to roll these out according to the approximate timeline in the following Table:

Tentative Timing for VTH(s)

1.   Regional Group 1: Africa, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE

September, 2020

2.   Regional Group 4: Asia

a)     Southeastern Asia

b)     Eastern Asia [China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong]

c)     Southern and Central Asia [India, Pakistan]

September, 2020

3.   Regional Group 2: South America

October, 2020

4.   Regional Group 3: North and Central America and the Caribbean

October 2020

5.   Regional Group 5: Europe [includes Russia, Iceland, Greenland, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Syria]

November 2020

Please provide a short paragraph to Gwen Hamon ([hidden email]) explaining the rationale for your nomination and include the name, your Region, home nation, and if you are an Early or Mid-Career researcher. The nominations will close as soon as suitable candidates have been identified.

Best regards,
Gwenaelle Hamon
