Dear Colleagues,

We already have a very good listof contributions (~300)to the

*
"20 years of Progress in Radar Altimetry" Symposium
Monday 24 to Saturday 29 September 2012, in Venice-Lido, Italy**. *

We have also received requests to grant some more time in the light of
other meetings and deadlines. Adding to the fact that private schedules
having been altered by the bad weather that hit Europe recently, we will
hold back the dispatch of the Abstracts to the Scientific Committee
until the 1st of March 23:59 CET (GMT+1:00).
*

*
*The abstract deadline is 1 March  (two weeks from now) *

-------- Update of the 23 Dec 2011 Message --------

    Dear Colleagues,

*The
"20 years of Progress in Radar Altimetry" Symposium
will take place from Monday 24 to Saturday 29 September 2012, in
Venice-Lido, Italy**. *

*Please mark in your agenda for the abstract deadline: 15 February

*

*
*    Following on from the "15 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry"
Symposium in 2006, deemed a very successful landmark by the participants
and the readership of the Proceedings, we are now reaching the
twenty-year anniversary of the launch of ERS-1 and TOPEX/POSEIDON. To
mark this occasion the  European Space Agency, in collaboration with the
French Space Agency,  CNES, is organising an exceptional Symposium on
"20  Years of Progress in Radar  Altimetry". This event will be
sponsored by other partner agencies and organizations supporting the
development of altimetry. Along with this symposium, several related
events will take place on the same week, including the annual meeting of
the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OSTST), the International
Doris Service (IDS) workshop and the Argo Science Workshop as well as
other thematic workshops still to be organised, such as, Sea Level for
Climate, Coastal Zone, Space for Hydrology, etc. These events will be
held over 6 days, from 24 to 29 of September 2012, in Venice-Lido, Italy.

Please consider your participation at this exceptional event and
reserve the week from 24 to 29 September 2012 in your agenda. For the
symposium, a call for papers is available at
*http://www.altimetry2012.org (Flyer)* <http://www.altimetry2012.org>
with detailed information and deadlines (NB: the "call for papers" flyer
does not mention adequately the Argo Workshop as it was produced before
this event was organised). *The abstract deadline is 15 February. *For
OSTST Meeting,  IDS Workshop and Argo Workshop, additional information
and call for contributions will be sent out by their organisers and
linked to this same website:

** Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OSTST) Annual Meeting*

This meeting includes the splinter working sessions of the traditional
OSTST event while the *keynote presentations will be included in the
Symposium programme. Please submit those by **the abstract deadline of
15 February to*

*http://www.altimetry2012.org (Abstract Submission)
<http://www.altimetry2012.org>
*

*The normal Splinter sessions abstracts will be due by 16 May 2012.
See OSTST2012 web site: http://www.altimetry2012.org (Themes -> OSTST)

*
* International DORIS Service Workshop *

This workshop will bring together representatives from all DORIS groups
to share information about the network, data, products, and to
coordinate future activities. It will be a platform for exchanges and
discussions on the following topics:
    - recent improvement in DORIS data processing for Precise Orbit
Determination and Geodesy
    - IDS combined products
    - current scientific uses of IDS data and products
    - IDS and multi-technique combinations in the GGOS perspective

*The IDS workshop sessions abstracts will be due by 16 May 2012*

*

*Contributors to the IDS  Workshop are encouraged to also submit
keynote, review and science presentations to the Symposium programme, in
session "*_*Altimetric contributions to *gravity field, marine geoid,
bathymetry modeling and*orbit determination*_*". **Please submit those
by **the abstract deadline of 15 February to*

* 4th Argo Science Workshop*

The theme of the Argo workshop is to celebrate 10 years of progress for
Argo and to prepare the next decade and new challenges for Argo.  The
2.5 day workshop will include both oral and poster presentations.  It
will include a review of Argo achievements in ocean and climate research
(e.g. heat and salt budget, large scale seasonal and inter-annual
variability and ocean circulation, mesoscale variability, marginal seas,
ocean analysis and forecasting) and float technology and science
discussions on the development on the new phase of Argo for the next
decade (sustaining Argo and developing extension towards
biogeochemistry, deep ocean and polar regions).
The general objectives of the Workshop are:

   - to stimulate more research using Argo data, especially in
combination with altimetry,
   - to entrain young scientists into the Argo community
   - to strengthen communications between the Argo and altimetry groups
   - to further increase the visibility of the Argo Program
   - to broaden the discussion of Argo's future evolution.

*See Argo Science Workshop web site: http://www.altimetry2012.org (

*

*
**Contributors to the Argo Workshop are encouraged to also submit
keynote, review and science presentations concerning Argo to the
Symposium programme, in session: _Synergy between Altimetry, other data
and models: "the integrated approach"_. **Please submit those by **the
abstract deadline of 15 February to*
