Data set release: ITS_LIVE Regional Glacier and Ice Sheet Surface Velocities

Dear Colleague,

The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) are pleased to announce the ITS_LIVE Regional Glacier and Ice Sheet Surface Velocities, Beta Version data sets are now accessible through the JPL and NSIDC. These data sets are produced under the Inter-mission Time Series of Land Ice Velocity and Elevation (ITS_LIVE) project, part of NASA's Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) 2017 program, and include a set of regional compilations of annual mean surface velocities for all major glacier-covered regions, spanning the time period from 1985 to 2018. Surface velocities are derived from Landsat 4, 5, 7, and 8 imagery using the auto-RIFT feature tacking processing chain described in Gardner et al. (2018). Data scarcity and/or low radiometric quality are significant limiting factors for many regions in the earlier product years, however coverage is nearly complete for the years following the Landsat 8 launch in 2013. The annual mosaics are provided at 240 m and the complete time-averaged velocity mosaics are provided at 120 m spatial resolutions.

Access to the data is provided through a web application hosted at the NSIDC. The data documentation and web application for data selection is provided through the project web page at the JPL:
