A preliminary schedule for the week can be found on www.daca-13.org.
Each day four sessions are scheduled, each lasting 90 minutes; there
will be an extended poster session each day in the afternoon and plenary
talks with reputed keynote speakers on four of the five evenings.
Registration will open on Sunday, 7 July at 17.00 and will be continued
on Monday morning. Further, there will be an opening ceremony on Monday
and a Conference Dinner on Thursday.
Business or administrative meetings will be held on Sunday, 7 July and
on Saturday, 13 July. During the week no special meetings can be held in
the conference centre. The organisers can support you with the
organisation of rooms for July 7 and 13.
Sessions belonging to the same symposium will not run in parallel
time-slots, so as to minimise thematic overlap. As much as possible,
time overlap between symposia from the same thematic family will also be
The length of the sessions (number of oral blocks) will be determined
by the programme committee according to the number of submitted
abstracts per session. If a session has very few abstract submissions,
it might be organized as a poster-only session.
All oral blocks last 90 minutes and the standard time for oral
presentations is 15 minutes (12+3). Talks of solicited speakers last 30
minutes (24+6) in case of one solicited speaker, or 22 minutes (18+4) in
case of maximum allowed two solicited speakers (two in a row). Therefore
every oral block has either 5 or 6 oral presentations. The duration of
the oral presentations is strictly defined, so as to enable participants
to switch between sessions. Please do not nominate more than two
solicited speakers for your session.
There is room for 575 posters at the same time; posters will be swapped
in the middle of the week to allow for a total maximum of 1150 posters.
The poster sessions will be near the rooms for the oral presentations.
During 2013/14 the International Glaciological Society (IGS) will
publish a volume of the thematic journal, Annals of Glaciology on the
topic of Sea Ice. IGS and IACS have worked together previously to
produce one Annals of Glaciology volume (from the IACS sessions during
the 2007 IUGG Perugia meeting), Vol. 48; 2008. IGS is supporting and
encouraging further cooperation, by offering a submission window to the
Annals of Glaciology thematic volume on Sea Ice during the period 1 July
2013 till late April 2014.
IGS recommends that we coordinate at least 30 papers through the Davos
meeting to provide a critical mass of contributed papers. Participants
at the IGS Hobart meeting on sea ice in March 2014, are also invited to
submit to the volume. Note however, that submissions to Annals of
Glaciology are not contingent on presentation at any symposia, and
papers presented at the symposia are not necessarily affirmed as being
suitable for publication; i.e. papers are reviewed for publication in
Annals of Glaciology independently of any symposia guidelines.
Annals of Glaciology papers are published on line (and universally
accessible) as soon as they have completed the review and editing
processes. Once all papers are complete, a final print volume is
published. Annals of Glaciology is listed in the Thompson Citation Index
with a current score of 1.800. IGS emphasizes excellence in its
publications to keep this score or better. We are also seeking
researchers willing to serve as guest Annals of Glaciology editors. In
particular, we encourage young authors to publish or join us for
editorship duties as a short-term opportunity to learn more about the
