PhD Studentship Opportunity - Sea ice data assimilation

Dear Colleagues

The sea ice data assimilation group at the University of Waterloo is seeking outstanding applicants for a fully funded MASc or PhD position in the Department of Systems Design Engineering. The project will involve working on methods to retrieve and assimilate observations from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery in a coupled ice-ocean model and assess the impact on the ice and ocean state.

Requirements
- previous degree in engineering, mathematics or geography
- programming skills in either Fortran, Python or C
- demonstrated experience in modelling physical systems
- departmental requirements as described at:

Assets
- peer-reviewed publications
- previous experience with ice/ocean modelling
- previous experience with SAR imagery
- intellectual curiosity with strong technical skills
