PhD position available at Uppsala University

Ward van Pelt
Dear Cryolist,

We are seeking a PhD student at Uppsala University, Sweden, to work on global glacier thickness and volume estimation.

In this project an established thickness inversion method will be adapted for large-scale applications. In a first step, the method will be used to estimate the current thickness distribution and volume of all >200,000 glaciers contained in the Randolph Glacier Inventory. A range of remote sensing and in situ observations of surface conditions and ice thickness will be employed as input and/or for model calibration. In a second step, the future glacier evolution will be simulated for a selection of glaciers and results will be upscaled to all glaciers worldwide to assess the 21st century sea level rise contribution.

Supervisors: Ward van Pelt (Uppsala University), Rickard Pettersson (Uppsala University), Regine Hock (Oslo University) and Ian Brown (Stockholm University).

More details about the position, required qualifications, and how to apply can be found here:
https://www.geo.uu.se/about-us/available-positions/tjanst/?positionId=371142

The deadline for applications is 15 January 2021.

Best regards,

Ward van Pelt
