A PhD-position in glaciology is available at the Department of
Geosciences, University of Oslo, Norway (http://www.geo.uio.no). The
position is affiliated with the Section for Physical Geography.
The fellowship is for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work.
Starting date no later than 1 October, 2010.
The candidate will work with the dynamic response of Arctic Glaciers
(Svalbard). The emphasis will be on the interaction between (increased)
glacier melt and glacier dynamics. Depending on the competence of the
successful candidate, the project can be oriented towards the numerical
modelling of glacier dynamics and hydrology, or towards the
observational side with focus on field observations and remote sensing.
The applicants should document a background in Geosciences,
preferentially in glaciology. The position requires good skills within
numerical modelling, and familiarity with MATLAB or similar high level
languages is an advantage. Knowledge and experience of cold regions and
field work are an asset. The compulsory work load of 25% will be within
teaching in courses on all levels.
