Post doc position in physical oceanography at the University of Bergen, Norway
We have an open 3-year post doc position in physical oceanography at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen. The position is part of the project "Overturning in the Nordic Seas". The overall objective of the project is to study the coupled ocean-atmosphere climate system in the Nordic Seas, a region that is of critical importance to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation but sensitive to climate change. The objective will be achieved primarily through processing and analysis of existing and new data sets as well as numerical modelling and theoretical constraints. The observations are moored and shipboard measurements of velocity, hydrography, and geochemical tracers as well as hydrographic profiles from autonomous gliders and floats. The processes of interest include open ocean convection, boundary current dynamics, and oceanic response to atmospheric forcing. The main tasks for the postdoctoral research fellow are to quantify the overturning in the Nordic Seas and to investigate the impact on the overturning of a changing climate. The research will mainly rely on inverse techniques as well as recently developed state estimates and/or high-resolution numerical simulations. Please see the advertisement below for additional details.
