Postdoc position available at Erlangen-Nuremberg University

Mölg, Thomas

The Climate System Research Group at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, is inviting applications for a 2-year postdoc position. The goal of the related project is to apply high-resolution atmospheric modeling to the problem of detection and attribution of climate change in high mountains. Besides meteorological viewpoints, the project also focuses on mountain glaciers as key elements of the climatic environment at high altitude. Therefore, the anthropogenic contribution to changes in both the atmospheric environment over selected mountains and observed glacier volumes will be addressed.

The expected profile of the successful candidate includes:

- a PhD degree in atmospheric or climate science, meteorology, physical geography, or a related field.

- fluency in English

- a demonstrated record of publishing in international journals and presenting on international conferences

- creativity and the ability to work in a team

- experience in atmospheric modeling and dynamics

Some knowledge of German is a plus for every-day life, but is not formally required for the work environment. There are no teaching obligations for this position, but occasional teaching is possible if desired.

The Climate System Research Group is housed in the Institute of Geography, School of Natural Sciences, and is linked to the professorship of Physical Climatology (T. Mölg). Our team and collaborators are focusing on research at the interface of atmospheric and cryospheric sciences; please see <> for further details. The university has facilities in two neighboring cities in the south of Germany, Erlangen and Nürnberg, that are characterized by a vibrant student community and by its scenic setting, respectively. The university is the second largest university in the state of Bavaria, and regularly scores highly in international rankings, particularly in research-related areas.

To apply, please send the following documents (in one pdf file!) to Thomas Mölg ([hidden email]) by 20 March 2017:

- a cover letter detailing your research interests and motivation for applying (1 to max. 2 pages)

- a CV (max. 3 pages)

- a list of your peer-reviewed publications

- three references with name and contact details

The expected start date is June or July 2017. The employment will take place through a project funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG). The exact salary depends on research experience, but will be on the order of 4,500 EUR gross per month (according to German E13 or E14 pay scale).

We look forward to receiving qualified applications!
