Postdoctoral Research and Associate Research Scientist positions in the Cryosphere Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory (CPRSL) at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist and for an Associate Research Scientist position in the Cryosphere Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory (CPRSL) at the Marine Geology Group (MGG) division, under the supervision of Marco Tedesco. The selected candidates will conduct analysis of climate model outputs over the Greenland ice sheet, evaluate remote sensing datasets and develop tools for integrating remote sensing data and model outputs. The selected candidates will also be supporting model development for the general circulation and regional climate models. Expertise in machine learning techniques is not required but strongly preferred. The selected candidates will be involved in several projects to improve simulations of Greenland and Antarctic ice sheet surface mass balance processes a, to understand the linkages between surface mass balance and atmospheric circulation, to write and contribute to peer-reviewed publications, attend scientific workshops to share research results with the broader research community and contribute to proposal writings for funding.

Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Computer Science, Earth System, Climate, Atmospheric, Applied Mathematics or related fields. The candidate is required to have experience working with climate model simulations, in processing and analyzing remote sensing data and a strong background in programming (e.g. Matlab, Python, R, Fortran, C) and/or data science. Candidates should also have excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to think creatively and work independently and in a team.In the case of the Associate Research Scientist, at least two years of post-doctoral experience are required.
