Research faculty position in sea ice geophysics at University of Alaska Fairbanks [corrected hyperlinks]

Andy Mahoney-2
Dear colleagues,

please accept my apologies for the double mailing. There was a problem with the hyperlinks in my last email, which has now been corrected.

The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a research faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of sea ice geophysics.

The sea ice group at UAF's Geophysical Institute carries out a wide range of research related to sea ice in the Earth system including many interdisciplinary collaborations. We offer excellent year-round access to sea ice research in many locations throughout Alaska with opportunities for working in partnership with indigenous communities. There are also many on-campus opportunities for collaboration with other polar researchers and facilities for obtaining and analyzing satellite data and using unmanned aircraft. The Geophysical Institute provides partial salary support for research faculty and this position includes a generous start-up package.

The successful applicant will be an active member of this team and is expected to pursue a vigorous, externally funded research program that expands the sea ice research capacity of the University and may incorporate remote sensing, field observations or model-based methods. Responsibilities will include recruiting and mentoring graduate students and may involve the teaching of graduate or undergraduate classes. Broad expertise in polar research and the ability to interact with researchers outside of the sea ice community are essential. Experience in multiple different geophysical research techniques and linkages with other components of the Arctic climate system is highly desirable.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field by the time of the appointment. Evidence of post-doctoral experience or demonstration of the applicant’s ability to acquire funding from external sources shall be provided.
