SUMup database of snow/firn density, accumulation on land ice and snow depth on sea ice
The SUMup database containing over 1,000,000 observations of snow/firn density, snow accumulation on land ice, and snow depth on sea ice is now available at the Arctic Data Center in both csv and netcdf file formats with metadata provided
for each sub dataset.
This compilation, standardized database contains data from ~1950-present day with relatively high-spatial, temporal and depth resolution. Notable data includes Carl Benson's traverse data from Greenland as well as monthly measurements from
Summit, Greenland. All data contains the proper reference. Currently, most measurements are located across the Greenland and Antarctica ice sheets but we are continually adding new data. Updated versions of the SUMup dataset will be published yearly, thanks
to support from the National Science Foundation. Thank you to all the researchers who have contributed to this dataset and
if you have any field observations to contribute for future releases please contact Lora Koenig ([hidden email]) or Lynn Montgomery ([hidden email]).
