Travel Funds Anticipated for U.S. Participants in the SCAR Open Science Conference, Davos, Switzerland, 19 to 23 June, 2018
It is expected that funds will be available to support participation of U.S. Antarctic/Southern Ocean scientists in the SCAR/IASC Open Science Conference in Davos, Switzerland (meeting
pending approval from NSF. The theme is Where the Poles Come Together. This Open Science Conference is an international and interdisciplinary meeting that will bring together scientists of all ages from around the world with interests in the Antarctic,
the Southern Ocean and the Arctic regions. Funds are intended primarily to support early-career scientists, graduate students and individuals who would increase the diversity of the polar science community. Participation in the SCAR Open Science Conference
and ancillary meetings of SCAR scientific groups provides individuals with the opportunity to contribute to international science initiatives. Individuals at all levels (students to senior researchers) interested in engaging in international collaborative
activities and, potentially, assuming active leadership roles in SCAR groups, are particularly encouraged to participate.
Eligibility and Application: Eligibility requirements are: 1) You must be employed by/enrolled in a U.S. institution; 2) You must present a talk or poster at the 2018 SCAR Open Science
Conference; 3) Applicants may not have access to NSF grants with travel funds for this meeting. Application forms will be announced after funding is confirmed and will be posted on the U.S. SCAR web site: usscar.org. In order to maximize the number of participants
supported, we anticipate that the funding per individual will be in the range of $1,000-2,500 USD, with lesser amounts awarded to more established applicants. All associated air travel must be on US-flagged carriers.
NSF international travel grants may not be supplemented by funds from any other NSF grant or fellowship.
