Update to MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity Maps from InSAR

NSIDC_USO

The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from InSAR, Version 2  data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, consists of mean monthly velocity maps for selected glacier outlet areas. The maps are generated by tracking visible features between optical image pairs acquired by the Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+), the Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI), and the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER). The Version 2 update expands the temporal coverage of the data set through September 2016, using cross-path Landsat pairs to fill in temporal gaps in the 2016 data. Version 2 also includes the application of a more aggressive filtering method, the correction of misnamed error values, and the addition of a west coast grid at 80.75 degrees north.

Access to the data and documentation is provided on the data set Web page at the NSIDC DAAC: http://nsidc.org/data/nsidc-0646

New CryoSat-2 Sea Ice Thickness Data Set at NSIDC

Nathan Kurtz
Dear Colleagues,

The CryoSat-2 Level 4 Sea Ice Elevation, Freeboard, and Thickness data
set is now available at NSIDC: http://nsidc.org/data/RDEFT4

This data set uses CryoSat-2 data to produce monthly gridded sea ice
thickness, freeboard, and roughness fields. The data set is archived
from after the launch of CryoSat-2 in 2010 and will be updated on a
daily basis during the sea ice growth season for the central Arctic
region. Browse images of sea ice thickness are also available with the
products.

A lower level product with shot-to-shot retracked surface elevation data
and associated fit parameters used during the waveform fitting process
will be made available soon via NSIDC as well.

Best regards,
Nathan
